Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about exporting iPhone photo metadata

What photo metadata can I export from iPhone to Excel? expand_more
Photo Metadata Exporter exports all standard EXIF data: GPS latitude, longitude, and altitude, capture date and time, camera model, lens information, ISO, aperture (f-stop), shutter speed, focal length, file size, image resolution, color space, orientation, and more — over 20 fields total. You choose which fields to include in each Excel file.
Does it work with iPhone photos stored in iCloud? expand_more
Yes. The app automatically downloads photos from iCloud when needed to access their complete EXIF metadata. A progress indicator shows the iCloud download status. Keep your iPhone connected to Wi-Fi for the fastest downloads.
Can I export the original photos along with the metadata? expand_more
Yes. Enable "Include original photos" in Settings and the export produces a ZIP file containing both the Excel spreadsheet and all original photos at full resolution — ideal for handing off complete photo documentation packages.
How many iPhone photos can I export in one batch? expand_more
There's no hard limit. You can export anywhere from a few photos to several thousand in a single batch. The app is optimized for large batches: 500+ photos typically finish in under a minute on a modern iPhone.
Are my photos uploaded to a server when I use the app? expand_more
Never. All EXIF extraction and Excel generation happens 100% on your iPhone. Photo Metadata Exporter does not have a server. Your photos and metadata never leave your device. There is no account, no cloud upload, no analytics on your photo data.
What Excel file format does the app generate? expand_more
The app generates standard .xlsx files (Microsoft Excel 2007 and later format) that open perfectly in Microsoft Excel, Apple Numbers, Google Sheets, LibreOffice Calc, and every other modern spreadsheet program. Each photo becomes a row, and each metadata field becomes a column.
Can I choose which photos to export? expand_more
Yes. Three flexible options: export the last 30 days of photos, select an entire album, or manually multi-pick specific photos with numbered selection order. The app shows an estimated photo count before exporting.
Is Photo Metadata Exporter a subscription? expand_more
No. Photo Metadata Exporter is free to download with an optional one-time PRO upgrade at $9.99 USD that unlocks unlimited batch sizes. There is no subscription. Once you purchase PRO, you keep it forever with no recurring fees.
What happens to photos that do not have GPS data? expand_more
If a photo lacks GPS data (for example, location services were off when it was taken), the GPS columns in the Excel file are simply left empty for that row. The rest of the EXIF fields export normally. This works the same for any missing metadata field.
Can I customize the column order in the Excel file? expand_more
Yes. In the Export Fields settings, you can drag and drop fields to reorder them. The order you set is exactly how columns appear in the Excel file. You can also enable or disable specific fields, and Filename is always included as the first column.
